Life Bites and Life Kisses – 12 x 16 – acrylic on canvas
Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘Life bites and life kisses’? I only just heard it recently and it’s truth stuck with me… I wanted to find a way to express it visually and the best form that came to my mind was an abstract. In the end though this painting may just evoke feelings of summer waves and ocean days – hee hee – but my original concept was the life quote. I suppose it’s best to leave the interpretation up to the viewer anyway. 😀
Happy Wednesday friends!
Are you ready for Christmas? I’m no where near ready but I managed to squeak this commission in just in time to be mailed out for Christmas! I love it when patrons give me free reign. I was completely free to choose the subject, colours and composition on this one so I had heaps of fun, although I still feel a little out of practice… Things are coming back to me but very slowly. I love Tamarack trees so this painting was mostly inspired by the colour they change in the fall. I do hope you enjoy seeing a bit more of the process and if I don’t get back on here again before the holidays I hope your Christmas is full of goodness and joy!!!
It is amazing how much time it takes to create a new world, write scenes, pull it all together into cohesive illustrations and then edit, edit more and finally print. These things are what we are currently working on at my Whimsical Publishing company for an upcoming graphic novel series. For me, the between times are full of practicing, and more practicing! I’ve posted some of my concept illustrations on Whimsical and I thought you might enjoy popping over there to take a peek. Just follow this link –> https://whimsicalpublishing.ca/2016/12/05/concept-illustrations-for-new-graphic-novel-series/ or click on the image below. 🙂 (Oh and if you’d like to see more of my illustrations on a daily basis be sure to follow me at my Instagram account–> @whimsicalillustration)
Finally! A new painting to share. Actually I’ve been struggling with the health stuff again in the past couple of months and have only recently recovered enough to begin to start painting. I was able to keep up with drawing as I could do that in bed or on the couch but being up to paint was a bit to hard. I have to say that I’m super excited to be well enough to start again and though I’m a little out of practice I managed to pull this small piece together. It’s really just a concoction of my imagination and apparently my imagination is fairly colourful. ;P
Lately on my @whimsicalillustration Instagram account I’ve been doing small illustrated series’. Recently I just completed this fun sketchy series of characters inspired by The Princess Bride film. A classic film by the way, which if you’ve never seen then you must! I thought it would be fun to share that series here as well. I hope you enjoy!!!
‘Stone Soul’ or ‘Hope is Rising’ 2′ x 3′ – Acrylic on Canvas
This is the first painting I’ve completed in a while, all due to many different circumstances. I am excited and nervous to share this piece with you because of it’s meaning… Recently we lost an old friend in a tragic accident, this painting was inspired out of grief but in the end not grief alone… Like myself, my friend was a believer and his death brought about a greater understanding of my faith. I started this painting in sadness and have ended it in celebration, it represents the reality of our souls in Christ. The old broken by death and the new come. We are more than just a body – so much more. Additional meaning was emphasized as I finished working on this piece last week because one of my young cousins was also tragically lost to my family. So much tragedy and yet hope, so much death and yet life.
Whether you share my faith or not I hope you find the celebration and the hope in this piece enjoyable. 🙂
I’ve been working through this illustration series on my Instagram account (@whimsicalillustration ) and thought it might be super fun to share it with you here. I’ve not yet finished the series (more to come so be sure to follow on Instagram) but I’ve been doing portraits of famous historical women in a manga illustrated style. I’ve shared all the the illustration on my Whimsical Publishing Blog so be sure to head out there to see more!
Just another reminder that my paintings are at The Break in Time Cafe here in Creston, BC!
Just installed this new “old” painting yesterday – this large piece has been hanging in my own home for years and this is the first time it’s ventured out into the great wide world. This is your chance to take a peek at it in real life!
Hello friends! Just in case you happen to be traveling through the Creston Valley this summer and you need to stop for a bite, my install is still up at Break In Time Cafe (downtown Creston BC). I’ll actually be installing a new large piece up in there tomorrow as well. Hope you get a chance to stop in!
