This blog has been sadly neglected for a long while due to injury and illness. My creative attention and focus was shifted into illustration and writing because they were something I was physically able to do. I am still unable … Continue reading
Finished up this little guy this morning. It’s inspired from a drawing I did a few years ago during some difficult health struggles. In my sketch book I titled the drawing ‘To See’ and I don’t quite remember why, something that made sense at the time, but now I think I’ll just call it ‘Seen’. A past tense – a feeling of finally being on the other side of it all. 🙂
This painting is available to purchase, contact me if you’re interested.
This painting is inspired by a series of photographs taken by a friend up at the summit in the Salmo-Creston area. People go hiking, snow shoeing and snow-mobiling up this mountain ridge and it’s absolutely stunning there in the winter with alpine trees draped in snow!
I haven’t done very many winter scenes and I rarely use such a limited palette so this painting is a stretch for me creatively. I actually started this canvas last year but was really dissatified. It was set aside for a LONG time before I revisited it and I wasn’t sure if I could redeem it. In the end I think I managed to mostly turned it around. However, now that it is finally spring I truly apologize for the winter reminder!
This painting is currently available – if you’re interested please contact me directly. 🙂
This painting commission was slow in coming around but I think in the end the final touches came together at exactly the right moment for many reasons. I hope you enjoy taking a peek at the process here. I titled this 16″ x 20″ painting ‘A New Dawn’ it’s a spin off inspired from a previous painting I did called ‘New Light Study‘.
Happy New Year to you all! I hope your holiday season was full of goodness. I’m working through a couple of commissions at the moment and just finished this one today. A commission of Fisher Peak. There is a beautiful range of mountains in Cranbrook, BC, one that I had the privilege of viewing daily for 15 years, Fisher Peak is the highlight of that range. The funny thing is that I never painted those peaks until I moved away. This is only my second painting of Fisher Peak – the first one I did a few years ago and can be seen by clicking HERE. My client grew up in the Kootenays and has since moved away but has fond memories of Fisher Peak, Hence the title ‘Mountain Memories’.
Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘Life bites and life kisses’? I only just heard it recently and it’s truth stuck with me… I wanted to find a way to express it visually and the best form that came to my mind was an abstract. In the end though this painting may just evoke feelings of summer waves and ocean days – hee hee – but my original concept was the life quote. I suppose it’s best to leave the interpretation up to the viewer anyway. 😀
Happy Wednesday friends!
Finally! A new painting to share. Actually I’ve been struggling with the health stuff again in the past couple of months and have only recently recovered enough to begin to start painting. I was able to keep up with drawing as I could do that in bed or on the couch but being up to paint was a bit to hard. I have to say that I’m super excited to be well enough to start again and though I’m a little out of practice I managed to pull this small piece together. It’s really just a concoction of my imagination and apparently my imagination is fairly colourful. ;P
I’ve really been enjoying and focusing on developing my illustrative skills lately so I can’t resist sharing with you some of my recent work in that area. I hope you are all enjoying your summer??? So far our weather has been mild and lovely! Heading out camping at the end of July – R&R time here we come! 😀

Morning friends! Another little light study illustration for ya. This was a bit of a departure for me since it’s an indoor scene. Well kind of an indoor/outdoor scene – I really wanted to try raindrop on a window.
Hope you all have a lovely day even though it’s Monday!

Hello friends! Just checking in to let you know that I am constantly creating! I have a painting commission in the works right now – a beautiful scene from Chania, Crete – can’t wait to show you that! I’ve also been continuing on in my quest to improve my lighting skills. I started out with the Light Study painting and have continued exploring light in these first two illustrations you see attached here.
I’ve also been working on hard on illustrating new colouring pages for Whimsical Publishing! As you can see I’ve been teaching myself more about digital tablet painting and I couldn’t resist adding some subtle colour touches of my own to these two new colouring pages.
And while I’m at it I might as well show you a couple of the character design/children’s illustration work that I’ve been playing around with as well! I hope these all bring you a smile!
(Pssst – if you’d like to follow along with me on a more daily basis with me be sure to join me on Instagram! I have two accounts, one for painting and photography: @mishmashartist and the other for illustration: @whimsicalillustration). Would LOVE to connect with you there!!!
