An Unexpected Journey – New “Old” Painting

‘An Unexpected Journey’ – 18″ x 18″ – Acrylic on Canvas

I’m always so thrilled when the crocuses pop out at my back door in early spring. They bring me joy and hope for warmer days. As stated in my title this is a new “old” painting and what I mean by that is I actually reworked an older piece which I was not all that happy with. I created this painting last year but was never 100% satisfied with the result – the colours were too neon and just not rich enough. Although I liked the movement and shapes within it I couldn’t bring myself to like it as a whole. IMG_8763_SmallSo I set to work this week trying to resurrect it… It turned out to be a bigger project than I anticipated – ha – I practically repainted the whole thing… Anyway, in the end I think I like it better. It’s slightly more representational (which wasn’t the plan… sometimes paintings just have a mind of their own) but I do really like the richer tones.
Thoughts? Which one do you like better?IMG_2521_Small

Celebration – A New Painting!

If you’ve read my bio and artist’s statement then you know that one of my favourite things about creating art is the opportunity it affords me to become a part of someone else’s story. This commission piece is particularly special in that way because it is going all the way to Quebec to be with a family member. Sadly, I’ve not seen my family back East since I was small but I LOVE that this little piece of me is headed back there this week! (Now if only I were small enough to pack myself into the box with it!) 😉

The painting was inspired by a photograph I took in early spring. These crocuses were the first little flowers to show their face this year. I can’t help but celebrate each spring when they poke through. Hence, I titled the piece ‘Celebration.’ Hope you enjoy your scroll. 🙂IMG_2981
